Are there complications working for more than 1 carrier at a time?
It is recommended you align yourself with **AT LEAST** 2 carriers,
even a 3rd. It's easy to do when you know who to go to and how to do it...
Working with multiple carriers this time of year (and year round for
that matter) is the best thing you can do for yourself to maximize
your vans income potential. Our list of carriers and ourselves do not
decal your van OR put qual comms on them (bye bye expense) and they
all use a 2 way radio instead.
Bad News:
Some expedite CARRIERS "do not like it" at all when their
owner operators align themselves with other carriers (at the same time),
regardless of your right to do so, if you choose. They want to control
your unit alone and some may not care how this affects your bottom line
and LOAD VOLUME...
Why working for multiple carriers simultaneously could be a problem?
Some CARRIERS "do not like it" at all when their
owner operators align themselves with other carriers, because it can
create *complications* in a collision when displaying the
other, CARRIERS name, logo and ICC/MC#, at the time of the collision,
but your under load with *another carriers load*.
This can result in wrongly *involving* the carrier
(that has the info displayed on the cargo unit) but again, its *NOT their
load* that was in the cargo unit at the time of the collision.
When collisions happen when your under load with CARRIER XYZs load,
it can inadvertently involve the other carrier **when their name, logo and / or
ICC/MC# are being displayed** and involve them in that collision when they
have no involvement.
Prevent / Overcome the problems be:
An easy way to resolve this is to work for carriers that do not install
their name, logo and / or ICC/MC#.
There are plenty of carriers that operate this way. They may do so in
part, to have you avoid the cost of the decals, or simply to make it
easy for you to run for other carriers at the same time by having no
issues with loads that involve collisions
Cargo vans are not required to display
1. Carriers name
2. Logo and / or
3. ICC/MC# .
Vehicles larger (and over 10,000# GVWR) must display the
1. Carriers name
2. ICC/MC# only, so this makes it more difficult but still, there are
ways to work for multiple carriers simultaneously.
Method:
You simply need to cover up the carrier info your not under load with
and display the carrier info you are, but only if they are on doors or
sleepers and small & manageable in size. If they are enormous decals,
its impossible.
If your carrier insists on putting enormous decals on your unit for
their publicity, your more than likely not going to be able to run for
multiple carriers simultaneously.
Again, work for carriers (in a cargo van) with no decals. If your in a
truck, work with a carrier that puts on the bare minimum door or
sleeper decals, you can cover them and / or display only the carrier
information your under load with at that time (or the last time) if
your unloaded waiting for the next load...
Its important that you manage the applied decals properly.
Collisions and Safety Ratings:
When there are accidents or issues like a vehicle being put Out of
Service (OOS) for (example) safety violations or log book violations,
while under load for a carrier, those issues can also cause the wrong
carrier, issues with their safety ratings especially when an owner
operator is falsly displaying the incorrect carrier information while
under load and something happens with the D.O.T.
Safety violations & collisions can affect the *safety rating* and have
devastating repercussions on carriers, so, this is why some carriers
don't like it when your with multiple carriers but again, so long as
your NOT displaying one carriers name and ICC/MC
information while under load for someone else and YOU manage this
correctly, their should be no issues.
